Why a Lee Sporting MP5 lower?

The Lee Sporting LS5 lower replaces the factory MP5 trigger housing with a billet aluminum lower built around AR-15 controls. Lee Sporting’s own specifications:

• AR-15 grip, selector and trigger: the LS5 takes standard AR-15 pistol grips and safety selectors and runs an AR-pattern trigger, for a cleaner pull than the stock MP5 trigger pack.
• Better hand position: your firing hand sits 0.6 in. further forward and 0.4 in. closer to the bore axis than on the factory lower.
• Billet aluminum housing: the empty LS5 housing weighs 6.2 oz.
• Steel ejector lever: CNC machined from 4140 alloy steel and nitride coated.
• Super safety ready: Lee Sporting’s standard complete trigger groups ship with a regular AR trigger. This Lee Sporting lower comes set up with the D2 super safety, slip trip and polished hammer already installed.

Looking for an MP5 FRT?

On MP5-pattern guns like the HK SP5, Century Arms AP5 and PTR 9, the super safety lower is the most common way to get forced-reset style shooting: the slip trip uses the bolt’s travel to reset the trigger, and the gun still fires one round per pull. Which Lee Sporting LS5 variant do I need?

Lee Sporting builds the LS5 in two sizes (full size and K) and two front-pin styles (semi shelf, as on HK and PTR, or push pin, as on most clones). Pick the Size and Brand options that match your host gun:

How an MP5 super safety works

The short version is below. For the full walkthrough, read our MP5 super safety guide.

• Three positions: safe, semi, and a third super safety position. In the third position the slip trip uses the bolt’s travel to push the trigger forward and reset it, so you shoot faster without changing how the trigger is pulled.
• One round per pull: the trigger still has to be pulled for every shot; the super safety only shortens the reset.
• Why buy it complete: the hammer profile, slip trip timing and selector all have to work together. This lower comes assembled with all of them, so you are not chasing parts from three different makers.
• Which guns it works on: MP5-pattern 9mm guns using the push-pin or shelf trigger housing listed in the chart above. For AR-15s, the equivalent is a forced reset selector such as the Atrius Forced Reset Selector or the Ambi 3-Position Forced Reset Selector; compare them in super safety vs FRT or see all forced reset triggers and selectors.
